DAY OF SERVICE (All Ages) This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day join PRCS staff at Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park for a day of civil volunteer work. There will be volunteer opportunities for all ages. Meet at the nature center and we will find the best volunteer project for you. Please call ahead of time if you are bringing a group of 5 or more. Free M 1/16 10:00am-3:00pm ANIMAL ADAPTATIONS (Ages 5 & up) How are animals able to survive the winter? And how do we know if animals are awake or hibernating? Answer these questions and more through a guided naturalist hike. We will explore how animals are adapted for cold tempera- tures. Inquire at hansonpark@loudoun.gov $5 Sa 1/28 1:00pm-2:00pm WINTER TREE ID (Ages 18 & up) How can you tell which trees are which when there are no leaves? Join a naturalist on an informative hike that will take you through the different ways you can identify woody plants in the winter. Inquire at hansonpark@loudoun.gov $5 Sa 2/04 1:00pm-2:00pm INTRODUCTION TO BIRDING (Ages 5 & up) You and your family are invited to learn the basics of birding. We will demonstrate the use binoculars and introduce the most common birds in the park. Afterwards, we will go on a guided nature walk. Limited binoculars available for use. Our naturalist will provide an informational demonstration and then together we will read a story to the turtles. The story begins and ends at the nature center and follows a child-friendly path through the woods. Free Ongoing 12/21-12/28 NOON YEAR’S EVE (All Ages) This is a family friendly countdown to New Year’s. We will make festive noisemakers, roast s’mores, and have a countdown to the noon New Year. INSTRUCTORS WANTED Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park is looking for instructors who are willing to share their talents with the community through experiential engagement with children ages 4-13. Employment opportunities are typically during the spring, summer, and fall months and include leading activities such as archery, fishing, and leading summer camp. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with facilitation of birthday parties and other on property events. Must have completed 9th grade to apply.
