Solstice Stroll & Campfire All Ages Experience wildlife after hours with this magical evening adventure! Join us for a stroll through moonlit woodlands where you can use bionic ears and night vision goggles to observe the world of night. End the night with a campfire and s’mores! This program is weather dependent, rain date is the day after. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration fee is per participant. Enjoy a family-friendly walk with a Virginia Master Naturalist to identify and count Banshee’s birds as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count. Afterwards, submit your counts to help scientists better understand and protect birds around the world. A bird seed craft for kiddos and hot cocoa will be provided for participants to sit & sip at picnic tables surrounding Banshee’s birdfeeders. Banshee Reeks hosts monthly themed hikes to help you join the 1000 Hours Outside challenge. Let’s go! December Hot Cocoa Hike All Ages Hot chocolate after a chilly winter hike is truly a magical experience! Warm-up with a cup of cocoa (marshmallows optional!) while you enjoy a 1-2 mile winter walk through the woods with a Virginia Master Naturalist. We’ll welcome the winter season as we look for signs of winter animals and notice all the cool changes happening around us! Meet at the Visitor Center. During the 1-2 mile hike with a Virginia Master Naturalist, you’ll work on creating an intention word to write on paper. After the hike, warm-up around a morning campfire and toss your intention word into the flames to carry it forward into 2025! Meet at the Visitor Center. Birding Banshee Ages 12+ Join Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy for this regular outing that takes place the second Saturday of every month. Varied habitats including streams, woodlands, and fields makes Banshee a birding hotspot. Bring binoculars if you have them. Traditions Of Light Trail All Ages Bring the family for a celebration of global festivities centered around lights. Enjoy a short self-paced walk in the woods as you learn about worldwide rituals of fall and winter. Traditions of Light is a quarter- mile loop over uneven natural surfaces. No registration required. Volunteer Workday All Ages Lend your hands to care for our lands! Join us on the third Saturday of every month and help with multiple projects around the preserve. Possible volunteer tasks include invasive plant removal, gardening, painting, trail maintenance, and more.
